Your life in animal time

The idea for Turtle Time came up over a Friday lunchtime conversation at the office. We got talking about dog years and quickly arrived at the question: what about other animal years? And so, Turtle Time was born.

It now answers that question for over 100 animals and any stretch of time, from a minute to a lifetime, and it keeps count of the days that matter to you, so that every so often a round number gives you a bit of a lift.

How it was made

Turtle Time is made by one person, with help from AI, and we'd rather say so plainly:

• The animal pictures and the icon were made with ChatGPT's image tools from written descriptions, and each was checked against photos of the real animal.
• The app's code and its first translations were written with Claude, Anthropic's AI, with a person deciding what the app does and checking the result.
• The translations are being checked by native speakers. You can help.

The lifespans are typical figures for each animal; real animals vary a lot.
